Thinking of rigging up a fly rod for this summer. Figure I can run it on a downrigger or on a board. Probably bounce a lot on board, but would put it far forward and try to not look at it until it went. As my experience is limited to pan fish and stream trout was wondering if anyone could give me a idea of the size reel and pole that would work for our kings. Will need some kind of fly line, as the tech. used, the line doesn't go right on the reel during the fight.

Ive got a mooching rod/reel setup that I sometimes put on a rigger with a meat rig. Its a daiwa dc375 with powerpro on it. Ups the fun factor.

Jlars ... do you run a mono leader from your powerpro or go right to a swivel?

Ever try a noodle rod? Doc talked about it... A long very flexible rod with very light line..He must have stopped the boat to fight a fish but it sounded exciting.... JP

I don't know the first thing about fly rods but can tell you that I have a light 6.5 foot rod that I put down on a downrigger sometimes. It's a riot when you hook up with an angry king on that rod.
