We fished from 7 until noon today. The calm to 2' forecast seemed a lot more like 2'-4' with the emphasis on 4 as we got further offshore. We got a rainbow while setting lines on a wire dipsy 125' out on 1.5 with a Fishlander Kevorkatail spoon. Then a 3 year old an hour or so later on a rigger at 65' with a Moonshine half meal on an swr. We picked up another good bow on the dipsy and another 3 year old on a black/gold/glow standard size Pk spoon on a rigger. The 30 and 45 pound coppers and full core with spoons caught a couple shakers but nothing worth keeping. We ended up 8 for 10, so not a bad morning even if it was a little bumpy. Almost forgot, all of the fish were caught between 160' and 185' straight out.
I'm thinking that was my last trip for the year, but I've been thinking that for the past 4 or 5 trips. I wonder what the wind forecast is for the weekend? ;D

Don't play your "fishing card" yet .. that wind site tends to change ... A LOT ... Friday night if it's the same .. go for it!

question-do the fish stop biting/migrate south or anything in the fall? I keep hearing talk that the boats are getting put away/last trip. Is that due to cold weather for us or because the fish stop biting?

I have caught fish in December .. quit because the ice breaking going out was giving me a headache ;D
You could/can get fish all season. You may not be able to fish due to bad weather however.

You can't easily run an inboard or inboard/outboard powered boat in freezing temps, the water in the engines will freeze when they're not running. That's why most of us have to put our boats away when it gets cold. However, a few of us have another boat with outboards and can continue to fish. Open water fishing is a 12 month per year game in Wisconsin if you know where to look.

The fish I caught today were full of shad. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Is that something common that I just haven't noticed or is there something weird going on with the forage out there?

Hmmm, wish I would have known that! I spent March-June chasing browns in shallow with rapalas and trying to find walleye on the bay side... I guess I just assumed since no one was out there salmon fishing there must not be any fish out there at that time...

Just be carefull in those cold months. Things happen real fast and there isnt anyone around to help you. Be sure you have some back up plans. Kyle

Another thing late fishing brings up is .. the cleaning station is closed and soon Kewaunee will pull the remaining dock(cleaning board ) so you will have to crawl over the bow of your boat to launch. Be careful because there is gravel and rock where the dock should be .. so stay in the "ramp" area.

That was a first for me but it worked so well I think I'll do it that way from now on.
